When I was a child these were made every Thanksgiving and Christmas. As a child I didn't appreciate them as they are not as sweet as some cookies. They are a great cookie with Coffee. Older adults appreciate them more than kids do.

They require an overnight chilling so these will not be done the same day

Ingredients

1/4 c
butter, softened
1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c
sugar
2 tsp
vanilla
1 large
egg
2 c
flour
1 tsp
salt
2 tsp
baking powder
1 Tbsp
milk
1 c
walnuts, chopped

How to Make Marie's Christmas cookies (walnut refrigerator)

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cream butter, sugars and vanilla together. add egg and beat until fluffy. add rest and mix well.
  • 2Roll into two rolls about 6-7 inches long and wrap in waxed paper and chill overnight.
  • 3Next day bring out cookie rolls and slice 1/4 inch thick and bake 375 degrees for 10 minutes for soft cookies and 12 minutes for crunchy ones
  • 4NOTE: These can be frozen as logs until ready to use and also given as gifts in the log form to bake fresh for those "I can't cook at all" friends.
