These are wonderful cookies with lots of maple flavor. They remind me of Fall!

firmly packed light brown sugar
3/4 c
butter flavored crisco
2 Tbsp
maple syrup
1 tsp
1 tsp
maple extract
1 3/4 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
3/4 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
1 1/2 c
chopped walnuts
30 to 40
walnut halves

How to Make Maple Walnut Cookies


  • 1Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2Place brown sugar, shortening, maple syrup, vanilla, and maple extract in large bowl; Beat at medium speed of mixer until well blended. Add egg; beat well.
  • 3Combine flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Add to shortening mixture; beat at low speed just until blended. Stir in chopped walnuts.
  • 4Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto parchment paper on sheet. Press walnut half into center of each cookie.
  • 5Bake one cookie sheet at a time at 350 for 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Do not overbake. Cool cookies completely. Makes 3 dozen
