Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

2 c
all purpose flour
1 c
brown sugar
1 c
rolled oats
1 tsp
baking powder
1/4 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 c
butter or margarine
1/2 c
raisins
1/2 c
walnuts or black walnuts
1/3 c
sour cream or plain yogurt
1
egg beaten
3 Tbsp
molasses
1 tsp
baking soda

How to Make Lancaster Oatmeal Cookies

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut in the butter until mixture is evenly distributed.
  • 2Chop the raisins and nuts in a food processor or blender.
  • 3Blend the sour cream and egg together. Mix the molasses and baking soda together. Stir into sour cream mixture. Add to the flour mixture and stir into a stiff batter.
  • 4Chill batter in freezer for 15 minutes. Shape dough into walnut-sized balls. Having slightly wet hands makes this easier.
  • 5Place cookies 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten cookies with a back of a spoon.
  • 6Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees until they are a rich golden brown.
