Ingredients

  • 2 c

  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    rolled oats
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts or black walnuts
  • 1/3 c
    sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 1
    egg beaten
  • 3 Tbsp
    molasses
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda

How to Make Lancaster Oatmeal Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut in the butter until mixture is evenly distributed.
  2. Chop the raisins and nuts in a food processor or blender.
  3. Blend the sour cream and egg together. Mix the molasses and baking soda together. Stir into sour cream mixture. Add to the flour mixture and stir into a stiff batter.
  4. Chill batter in freezer for 15 minutes. Shape dough into walnut-sized balls. Having slightly wet hands makes this easier.
  5. Place cookies 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten cookies with a back of a spoon.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees until they are a rich golden brown.
