This is a Greek recipe from the ladies of my church on Long Island, St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Cathedral. These cookies are light and tender and are great for dunking

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, unsalted
  • 1/2 cup shortening, butter flavor
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 cups flour. i use half cake and half all purpose
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2- 3/4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2-4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 beaten egg
  • sesame seeds

How To Make koulourakia ( butter cookies)

  • Step 1
    Cream butter, sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
  • Step 2
    Beat in eggs and vanilla
  • Step 3
    Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt
  • Step 4
    Add cream and mix
  • Step 5
    Shape dough and put on greased cookie sheet
  • Step 6
    Brush with egg and top with sesame seeds Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or until golden
