NOTE: This is a very stiff batter so I added in 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk and they turned out great! Very good, chewy and chocolatey.

butter, softened
2 c
granulated sugar
2 medium
2 tsp
vanilla extract

all purpose flour, unsifted
3/4 c
cocoa powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
3 Tbsp
milk (may take 4)
1 c
nuts, finely chopped (optional)

How to Make Kentucky's Chewy Chocolate Cookies


  • 1Cream butter and sugar in large mixer bowl. Add in eggs, milk and vanilla and blend well.
  • 2Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Blend into creamed mixture; add more milk if needed. Stir in nuts.
  • 3Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly sprayed cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for approximately 8-9 minutes. Do not overbake. Cookies will be soft. They will puff during baking and flatten upon cooling.
  • 4Cool on cookie sheet until set, about one minute. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
