KANSAS: Munch your way across the USA. Teresa Jacobson, the state of Kansas is now represented. This recipe is from "Capitol Cookies" with recipes from every state & Washington, DC. This recipe was submitted by Midland Hospice Care Adult Day Activity Center, Topeka, KS, Mary Ann Teske, Chairperson. I personally have not made these cookies so, Teresa, if you make them, let us know if they make the state of Kansas proud.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening (like crisco)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • TOPPING:
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

How To Make kansas snickerdoodles

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400. Spray or grease cookie sheets. Cream together the first eight (8) ingredients. Gradually add in the flour and combine well. Form into walnut-size balls.
  • Step 2
    Combine well the two (2) topping ingredients. Roll each ball in the sugar cinnamon topping. Place onto greased cookie sheets about 2" apart and bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees.
