KANSAS: Munch your way across the USA. Teresa Jacobson, the state of Kansas is now represented. This recipe is from "Capitol Cookies" with recipes from every state & Washington, DC. This recipe was submitted by Midland Hospice Care Adult Day Activity Center, Topeka, KS, Mary Ann Teske, Chairperson. I personally have not made these cookies so, Teresa, if you make them, let us know if they make the state of Kansas proud.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup shortening (like crisco)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 2 - eggs
- 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- TOPPING:
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
How To Make kansas snickerdoodles

Step 1Preheat oven to 400. Spray or grease cookie sheets. Cream together the first eight (8) ingredients. Gradually add in the flour and combine well. Form into walnut-size balls.

Step 2Combine well the two (2) topping ingredients. Roll each ball in the sugar cinnamon topping. Place onto greased cookie sheets about 2" apart and bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees.
