This is a fantastic Sugar Cookie recipe. It is is a cook book that I have had when I was little, I have handed the book down to my children for their children. I love cook books and cooking magazines.

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening, butter flavor
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 large egg beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon orange peel
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons milk
How To Make jo's sugar cookies

Step 1Preheat oven to 375*F Makes 2 Dozen - Set a side a small bowl of sugar and nutmeg mixture or roll chill for an hour and roll out for cutting. If not rolling out you will need a small glass jar and shortening to smear lightly on the bottom, so you can dip into sugar nutmeg mixture and press down on the cookies.

Step 2In mixing bowl, cream together shortening and sugar, add beaten egg and cream, add vanilla, nutmeg, and orange peel, cream. Add flour, baking powder, salt mix with beater or hands, adding milk a little at a time. I prefer my hands because I can tell the consistency easier.

Step 3Chill for 30 minutes. You may roll and cut or roll into balls and place on cookie sheet press down with sugar and nutmeg mixture. Bake 12 minutes...............till golden brown depends on altitude.....Follow #1 I use Royal icing to ice the with...I have a royal icing recipe on the site...
