italian white cookies

Of all the cookies in the world, these are my all time favorite. To me the anise is the best! I make these for the Christmas season and I give them out as gifts! From my family's own personal recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 6 - eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons anise (or your favorite extract)
  • 6 cups flour
  • 6 tablespoons baking powder
  • - pinch of salt
  • ICING
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

How To Make italian white cookies

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350* Melt butter & shortening; cool. Beat eggs, stir in sugar, milk, oil & extract. Mix in butter/shortening mixture. Add flour, baking powder & salt, mix well. Dough should be soft but not sticky, add small amounts of flour if needed to reach a soft consistency.
  • Step 2
    Roll dough into 1" balls and place on lightly greased baking sheet about 1" apart. Bake 12-15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned, cool on racks.
  • Step 3
    Icing: Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract & milk until smooth. I use my food processor to mix the icing, it comes out smooth and silky! Glaze with icing and sprinkle with colored sprinkles or jimmies.
