These are called angenettes. They are very pretty to look at and festive at the holidays. My father-in-law loves these! The flour amount may need to be adjusted, you need enough flour to make a soft dough.

Ingredients

  • 6 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter, let cool a bit
  • 4 tablespoons canola oil
  • 3 teaspoons lemon extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 6 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour (approx)

How To Make italian cookies

  • Step 1
beat the eggs add in the sugar, cooled melted butter, oil, lemon ext. &milk. Mix well
  • Step 2
Add baking powder to 2 c flour. Mix to blend.
  • Step 3
Add to the liquid mixture and knead to form a nice soft dough.
  • Step 4
Form the dough into a loaf. Take a piece of dough, form it into a rope and form into spiral, love knot or can just ball them. (My aunt use to braid three smaller ropes together)
  • Step 5
Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. Let cool completely. Glaze with a mixture of hot water and powdered sugar, sprinkle with multi colored sprinkles or colored sugar. Wipe the bottoms, they can get sticky from the glaze.
