How to Make Italian Butter Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350*.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the shortening, butter & and sugar. Add the eggs & vanilla then blend in the flour, baking powder & salt. Chill dough 2 hours.
- Roll dough out on a floured surface, cut out shapes using cookie cutters and place onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until they are a light golden brown. Transfer to cooling racks.
- Optional Decorating:
Before baking sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles. Garnish centers with maraschino cherry halves or plain M & M's, pipe icing designs or sprinkle with powdered sugar after cooled.
