italian butter cookies

My daughter loves to make different shapes with these and sprinkle with powdered sugar! They have a great butter flavor and you can mix and match what you would like to top them with! From my own personal family recipie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup crisco shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 - eggs, beaten
  • 3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How To Make italian butter cookies

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350*. In a large mixing bowl, cream the shortening, butter & and sugar. Add the eggs & vanilla then blend in the flour, baking powder & salt. Chill dough 2 hours.
  • Step 2
    Roll dough out on a floured surface, cut out shapes using cookie cutters and place onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until they are a light golden brown. Transfer to cooling racks.
  • Step 3
    Optional Decorating: Before baking sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles. Garnish centers with maraschino cherry halves or plain M & M's, pipe icing designs or sprinkle with powdered sugar after cooled.
