How to Make Icebox Cookies
- 1Sift together flour, salt, and soda.
- 2Beat butter until soft and creamy.
Add syrup and sugar.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly with hands until stiff dough is formed.
- 3Shape into 3 rolls.
Wrap in waxed paper, chill in refrigerator 3 or 4 hours until firm enough to slice.
- 4Slice 1/8 inch thick.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Bake in a hot oven (400 F) for 10 minutes
COCONUT: add 1 cup after sugar.
SPICE: add 1 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloces, allspice, nutmeg and sift with dry ingredients.
FRUIT AND SPICE: combine spices and chopped fruit.
RAISIN AND SPICE: combine spices and 1 cup raisins.
