This is an old recipe from Gramma Bea's box. It came from her Gramma Zimmerman. It is a very old recipe so you an replace the lard with shortening. It is a simple but delious cookie.

Ingredients
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups white sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup lard
- 4 - eggs
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 6 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons soda in 1 t. hot water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt

Step 1Mix in order. That is all the recipe says. Some of these older recipes just assume you know a lot about baking. Instructions to follow.

Step 2Cream sugars, butter and lard together. Add eggs. Stir in soda, vanilla and salt. Now add the flour. You can either add the chopped nuts to the cookies or save them a sprinkle them on top when you bake them.

Step 3Roll the dough into several logs and wrap in waxed paper. Chill for several hours. Then slice and bake at 350 for 10 to 12 min.
