Got this from a friend in Atlanta! So, so good and good for you, too!

Try this...substitute dried cranberries for the dates and waluts instead of the chocolate. I did and it was awesome!

6 Tbsp
butter, unsalted
3/4 c
packed, light brown sugar
1/3 c
all purpose flour
1/3 c
whole wheat flour
3/4 tsp
baking soda
1 1/2 c
oats, regular
1/2 tsp
egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
dates, chopped and pitted
3 oz
coarsely chopped bittersweet chocolate

How to Make Heart Smart Cookies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350* Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat, add brown sugar, Stir until smooth.
  • 2In a medium bowl, combine both flours, baking soda, oats, and salt.
  • 3Combine butter mixture with dry ingredients, and add egg, vanilla, and dates. Fold in chocolate.
    Batter will be stiff.
  • 4Mix well, spoon by tablespoon onto lightly greased baking sheets.
  • 5Bake for 12 minutes or until tops are dry to touch. Makes 32 cookies.
