Got this from a friend in Atlanta! So, so good and good for you, too! Try this...substitute dried cranberries for the dates and waluts instead of the chocolate. I did and it was awesome!

Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 3/4 cup packed, light brown sugar
- 1/3 cup all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups oats, regular
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 - egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup dates, chopped and pitted
- 3 ounces coarsely chopped bittersweet chocolate
How To Make heart smart cookies

Step 1Preheat oven to 350* Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat, add brown sugar, Stir until smooth.

Step 2In a medium bowl, combine both flours, baking soda, oats, and salt.

Step 3Combine butter mixture with dry ingredients, and add egg, vanilla, and dates. Fold in chocolate. Batter will be stiff.

Step 4Mix well, spoon by tablespoon onto lightly greased baking sheets.

Step 5Bake for 12 minutes or until tops are dry to touch. Makes 32 cookies.
