My mom made these a lot when I was young. I'm not sure where she got the recipe, but we kids loved them. I still like them.

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 - egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon cold water
- 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 6 ounces chocolate chips
- 2 - egg whites
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
How To Make halfway bars

Step 1Cream the shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until well mixed. Beat in the egg yolks and water until incorporated.

Step 2Mix the soda and flour together. Gradually add to first ingredients until all the flour is mixed in.

Step 3Pat the cookie base into a 13" x 9" cake pan.

Step 4Beat the egg whites until stiff. Add 1 cup brown sugar until well mixed. Spread over the top of the cookie base. DO NOT touch sides of the pan.

Step 5Bake at 325 degrees until golden brown, about 35 minutes.
