The BEST sugar cookies you will ever make. Great for cut-outs & decorating! They can be soft or crispy, depends on how thick you roll them out. Every time I bring these cookies somewhere new, I'm ALWAYS asked for the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How to Make Perfect Sugar Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream butter, sugar, eggs & vanilla till smooth.
  2. In a separate bowl combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda & salt.
  3. Add dry mixture to wet mixture in small amounts until all incorporated.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour. (overnight is better)
  5. Preheat oven to 325F. On a clean floured surface, roll out small portions of chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
  6. Bake 10-12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are barely brown.
  7. Cool. Decorate. Enjoy!
