I have been making this recipe for many years. My husband loves them and will hint around if he has not had them in awhile.

We prefer the cookies without the sugar sprinkled on top.

How to Make Grandma's Tea Cakes

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  2. Combine flour, baking poweder, baking soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternating with buttermilk. Mix well. Stir in vanilla extract. Cover and chill 1 hour.
