  • 1/2 c
  • 2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 1 stick
    butter, softened
  • 2
  • 3 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c
    each chopped candied cherries,pineapple,dates,and pecans
  • 1 c
    each candied cherrie halves and pecan halves for garnish

How to Make Grandmas fruit cookies


  1. preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. cream brown sugar shortening and butter
  3. add eggs and buttermilk
  4. gradually add flour salt and baking soda
  5. add chopped nuts and fruit
  6. line cookie sheets with parchment paper
  7. drop batter by spoonful leaving space between
  8. garnish with half cherrie or pecan
  9. bake 8 - 10 minutes or until browned on top and bottom
  10. cool and enjoy !
