Ingredients
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 2 - eggs
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups each chopped candied cherries,pineapple,dates,and pecans
- 1 cup each candied cherrie halves and pecan halves for garnish

Step 1preheat oven to 375 degrees

Step 2cream brown sugar shortening and butter

Step 3add eggs and buttermilk

Step 4gradually add flour salt and baking soda

Step 5add chopped nuts and fruit

Step 6line cookie sheets with parchment paper

Step 7drop batter by spoonful leaving space between

Step 8garnish with half cherrie or pecan

Step 9bake 8 - 10 minutes or until browned on top and bottom
