grandma's chocolate chip cookies
These are the very best chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten. I have tried all kinds of "adds" and any one or all of them together are just delicious.

Makes 24-25 Big Cookies
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening (i use crisco)
- 2/3 cup real butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 6 ounces ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 6 ounces ghirardelli milk chocolate chips
- ADDITIONS
- 1 cup toasted pecans
- 1/2 cup plain toffee bits
- 1/2 cup plain or toasted coconut
How To Make grandma's chocolate chip cookies

Step 1Heat oven to 375 degrees, Use Parchment paper on cookie sheet or use ungreased cookie sheet.

Step 2Thoroughly cream shortening and butter together.

Step 3Add white sugar and brown sugar and mix well; add eggs and beat thoroughly; add cinnamon, salt, and baking soda and mix well. Add vanilla and mix together.

Step 4Add flour (1 cup at a time) and mix well after each addition ending with the 1/2 cup.

Step 5Add the chocolate chips and any additions you choose. It is important to follow the order of the directions as stated.

Step 6Drop by big tablespoons (I use a 2" ice cream scoop) onto cookie sheet 2-3" apart. Bake 14 minutes. Remove from oven and let sit for 1 minute before removing from cookie sheet. Enjoy!
