grandma miller’s snickerdoodles
Jeanne, my late beloved mother-in-law, gave me her recipe for “Sugar Cookies” shortly after I married her son. She made them often, but each family especially enjoyed their plate of cookies, half of a brandied fruitcake, and other treats when they headed home after dinner and presents on Christmas Eve. Jeanne loved to tell the story of Gary, a friend of her 5 boys, returning home from Vietnam after being seriously wounded. He missed her cookies, so when he finally got to their house to visit, she was making them. They all disappeared by the time he left. Good memories of two good people.

How To Make grandma miller’s snickerdoodles
-
Step 1Add butter, white sugar, eggs, and vanilla to a mixing bowl. If butter and eggs are not at room temperature, let them sit for one hour. Then beat for 3 minutes.
-
Step 2While the butter mixture is mixing, measure the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt into a bowl and stir to combine.
-
Step 3Add 1/3 of the flour mixture into the butter mixture and beat just until combined, then repeat twice more with the rest of the flour mixture. Beat with the mixer until well combined. Put the bowl of cookie dough into the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
-
Step 4Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Stir together the sugar and cinnamon.
-
Step 5Scoop out the dough and roll it into a ball. Then roll each dough ball into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet with some space between them since they will spread a bit. Tap the bottom of a glass in the cinnamon sugar and slightly flatten each cookie.
-
Step 6Bake at 350 degrees F. for 8-10 minutes, until slightly firm but not browned. Remove from the oven and cool for 1 minute before placing on cooling racks. Enjoy! =^..^=
