These are not really bars, but cupcake-like bars, that were made by my Grandma Martin.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 lb
    brown sugar
  • 4
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    coconut
  • 1 c
    chopped nuts
  • 1 c
    sliced maraschino cherries
  • 1 c
    chopped dates or raisins
  • 1 c
    chocolate chips

How to Make Grandma Martin's Holiday Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. In a pan, put your butter and brown sugar. Stir until melted and mixed well. Add beaten eggs, flavorings, and salt. Mix well. Remove from heat and add flour, baking powder, and coconut. Mix well. Add nuts, cherries, dates and/or raisins. Let cool. Stir in chocolate chips. Turn into greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. Can put on a light powdered sugar frosting, but not necessary. Cool and cut into bars.
