My precious mother in law Jenny Slotterback gave me this recipe. She was Pennsylvania Dutch and could she cook. My family loves these cookies. I made them for the kids in my church and now they are always asking for them.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    softened butter
  • 2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salr
  • 1 c
    buttermilk (no substitutes)
  • 3-5 c
    flour (you have to feel it. you don't want the dough too thin or the cookies will run and not be cake like

How to Make Grammy's Buttermilk Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine butter & sugar. Add eggs beat in. Add rest of ingredients alternating buttermilk with dry ingredients Drop by rounded tbsp. onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 350o for 10-12 min. Makes 2 1/2 to 3 dozen large cookies
  2. Icing: 6 tbsp. softened butter, 1 C. 10x sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1-02 tbsp. canned milk Mix until creamy
    Ice cookies when completely cooled. Enjoy!
