What an ugly name for this good looking chocolate cookie sandwich!! Mom was attracted to unusual food names! I suppose you could change it to "Whoopie" because they look very similar, but I'll leave that up to your discretion!! Both of those names are too odd for me!! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • COOKIE:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 - whole eggs
  • 1 cup sour milk (or buttermilk)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • CREAMY FILLING:
  • 5 tablespoons sifted flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar (or 2 1/2 c sifted powdered sugar)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make gobs

  • Step 1
    COOKIE: CREAM TOGETHER: sugar, butter, eggs
  • Step 2
    ADD: sour milk and boiling water
  • Step 3
    SIFT together: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cocoa -- then add to wet ingredients
  • Step 4
    DROP: by teaspoons full on ungreased cookie sheet
  • Step 5
    BAKE 450 F for 10 minutes
  • Step 6
    FILLING: COOK TOGETHER IN DOUBLE BOILER: flour and milk until it forms a thick paste -- let it cool
  • Step 7
    CREAM the butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • Step 8
    ADD: the flour paste and beat again till fluffy, then spread between cooled cookie gobs
