What an ugly name for this good looking chocolate cookie sandwich!! Mom was attracted to unusual food names! I suppose you could change it to "Whoopie" because they look very similar, but I'll leave that up to your discretion!! Both of those names are too odd for me!!

COOKIE:

2 c
sugar
1/2 c
butter

whole eggs
1 c
sour milk (or buttermilk)
1 c
boiling water
4 c
flour
2 tsp
baking soda
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 c
cocoa

CREAMY FILLING:

5 Tbsp
sifted flour
1 c
milk
1 c
sugar (or 2 1/2 c sifted powdered sugar)
1 c
butter
1 tsp
vanilla

How to Make Gobs

Step-by-Step

  • 1COOKIE:
    CREAM TOGETHER: sugar, butter, eggs
  • 2ADD: sour milk and boiling water
  • 3SIFT together: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cocoa -- then add to wet ingredients
  • 4DROP: by teaspoons full on ungreased cookie sheet
  • 5BAKE 450 F for 10 minutes
  • 6FILLING:
    COOK TOGETHER IN DOUBLE BOILER: flour and milk until it forms a thick paste -- let it cool
  • 7CREAM the butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • 8ADD: the flour paste and beat again till fluffy, then spread between cooled cookie gobs
