I just found this recipe out of a cookie cook book I purchased at a library bookstore and loved the recipe. It's easy to make and so much fun, though the cookies did turn out a bit small. Serve with desserts or coffee.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar/superfine sugar/powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 medium egg, beaten
  • 1 1/4 cups self-rising flour, sifted
  • SUGAR GLAZE
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

How To Make glazed sugar cookies

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 Celsius/Gas Mark 4) Lightly butter baking sheet.
  • Step 2
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add the beaten egg and mix well. Using a wooden spoon, stir in flour.
  • Step 3
Place the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a plain or fluted nozzle and pipe into S shapes, each about 1 ½ inches (4 cm) long, onto the prepared baking sheets. Lightly brush with sugar glaze.
  • Step 4
For sugar glaze, combine the sugar and water in a heatproof bowl, and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Step 5
Bake until lightly browned, 12 – 15 minutes. Using a spatula, loosen immediately, and then allow to cool on the baking sheets.
