gingerbread cookies

Yet another of my Christmas cookie recipes. I know you're supposed to cut them out into gingerbread men, but I just cut them out in whatever shapes I want. I'm a rebel like that! LOL These are really good! I hope you enjoy! Note: 1 hour of prep time is to chill the dough.

Makes 2 dozen.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 - egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- - dried currants for decoration (optional)
How To Make gingerbread cookies

Step 1Mix ingredients together. Refrigerate for 1 hour, then roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out and place 1/2 inch apart on baking sheet. If using currants, place them as desired for decoration. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.
