This has been in our family for over 60 years. One of our "go to" cookies! I've added a some chopped crystalized ginger to the topping for a little twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    shortenting
  • 1
    egg
  • 4 Tbsp
    molasses
  • 2 cup c
    flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    ginger
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1 tsp
    salt

How to Make Ginger Snaps

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream sugar and shortening, add the egg and molasses.
  2. Combine flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Add to wet mixture and mix gently.
  3. Chill in refrigerator for 1/2 hour. Take batter and roll into 1 inch balls. Dip balls in sugar before baking. I added a little chopped crystalized ginger to the sugar for a little extra ginger flavor.
  4. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
