This has been in our family for over 60 years. One of our "go to" cookies! I've added a some chopped crystalized ginger to the topping for a little twist.

Ingredients

1 c
sugar
3/4 c
shortenting
1
egg
4 Tbsp
molasses
2 cup c
flour
2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
ginger
1 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
cloves
1 tsp
salt

How to Make Ginger Snaps

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cream sugar and shortening, add the egg and molasses.
  • 2Combine flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Add to wet mixture and mix gently.
  • 3Chill in refrigerator for 1/2 hour. Take batter and roll into 1 inch balls. Dip balls in sugar before baking. I added a little chopped crystalized ginger to the sugar for a little extra ginger flavor.
  • 4Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
