Ingredients

  • 1/3 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    dark molasses
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    ginger
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • EASY ICING

  • 1 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1-2 Tbsp
    cream or milk

How to Make Ginger Creams

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 400.
  2. In a large bowl cream shortening and sugar, add egg, molasses, and water.
  3. In a medium bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three additions until just combine.
  5. Chill for 1-2 hours.
  6. Drop 1tspn. of dough 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until set (almost no imprint remains when touched lightly)
  7. For icing combine powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and cream wisk until smooth.
  8. Frost cookies while still slightly warm.
