Ingredients

1/3 c
shortening
1/2 c
sugar
1
egg
1/2 c
dark molasses
1/2 c
water
2 c
flour
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
ginger
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
1/2 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
cloves

EASY ICING

1 c
powdered sugar
1/4 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
vanilla extract
1-2 Tbsp
cream or milk

How to Make Ginger Creams

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 400.
  • 2In a large bowl cream shortening and sugar, add egg, molasses, and water.
  • 3In a medium bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.
  • 4Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three additions until just combine.
  • 5Chill for 1-2 hours.
  • 6Drop 1tspn. of dough 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until set (almost no imprint remains when touched lightly)
  • 7For icing combine powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and cream wisk until smooth.
  • 8Frost cookies while still slightly warm.
