ginger cookies--thin and delicate!

This recipe are from my good friend's mother. They are by far my favorite cookie for the holidays. They are additive. I make several batches.

yield 5 dozen

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup lard
  • 4 tablespoons dark molasses
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How To Make ginger cookies--thin and delicate!

  • Step 1
    Mix the first 4 ingredients well; add dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Step 2
    Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into a ball and flatten on a well-greased cookie sheet with the bottom of a tumbler dipped in sugar. Cookies are VERY thin.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 325° F. about 12 minutes. These may be decorated as desired for Christmas cookies. Yields about 5 dozen cookies.
