I have tried unsuccessfully to find a good molasses cookie recipe, until I visited my aunt Doris! These are wonderful cookies.

3/4 c
butter flavor shortening
1/4 c
2 c
+ 1 tblsp all purpose flour
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
1 tsp
ground ginger
1 tsp
2 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp

How to Make Ginger Cookies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • 2Cream shortening and sugar until light.
  • 3Add egg and beat until fluffy.
  • 4Beat in molasses until completely incorporated.
  • 5Sift (or whisk) together flour, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda and salt.
  • 6Add to flour mixture to shortening and sugar mixture, and mix to combine.
  • 7Roll into 1" balls and roll in sugar.
  • 8Place on cookie and press down lightly with a glass dipped in sugar.
  • 9Bake @ 350 degrees for 14-15 minutes.
