I have tried several molassis cookie recipes looking for the right one and had almost given up. Then I visited my Aunt Doris, and she shared her recipe with me! This is lovely cookie!

butter flavor shortening
1/4 c
2 c
+ 1 tblsp all purpose flour
1/2 tsp
ground gloves
1 tsp
1 tsp
ground ginger
2 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp

How to Make Ginger Cookies


  • 1Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Cream the shortening and sugar together.
  • 3Add egg and beat until fluffy. Then add the molasses and beat thoroughly.
  • 4Sift (or whisk) the flour, ground cloves, cinnamon, ground ginger, soda and salt, and add to shortening and sugar mixture.
  • 5Roll into 1 inch balls, then roll in sugar.
  • 6Place on cookie sheet and press lightly with a glass dipped in sugar.
  • 7Bake @ 350 degrees for 14-15 minutes. Let cool 2 minutes, then remove from pan to cooling rack.
