This recipe has become a family favorite recipe, reminding all of us of the flavors of grandma's German Chocolate Cake! Moist, delicious, and super simple, your family will love it TOO!

  • 1 box
    chocolate cake mix (without pudding)
  • 2
  • 1 stick
    melted butter
  • 1 c
    sweetened coconut
  • 1 c
    pecans, in pieces
  • 1 can(s)
    sweetened consensed milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c
    milk chocolate chips

How to Make German Chocolate Bars


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. This will make a thick dough. Spread the dough in a generously greased 9x13 pan. Do NOT push dough up the sides.
  3. Bake the chocolate crust for 7 minutes at 350. While baking, mix together 1 egg, sweetened condensed milk, coconut, pecans, and vanilla.
  4. Spread the topping over the par-baked crust and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Place back in oven and bake for 25 more minutes, until top is golden brown!
  5. Allow to cool completely and cut into bars!
