My mother used to make these cookies when I was young. I remember the sweet smell of the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. She would bake them and then put them in my favorite Teddy Bear cookie jar. THE BEST!!!

Ingredients

2 c
raisins
2/3 c
water
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c
shortening
2
eggs
2 c
all purpose flour
1 c
oatmeal, uncooked
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
cinnamon
1/4 tsp
cloves
1/4 tsp
nutmeg
1/2 tsp
salt

How to Make Gae Delights

Step-by-Step

  • 1Boil together raisins and water until raisins are tender. Remove from heat. Save 1/2 c water for later.
  • 2Sift together flour baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves nutmeg and salt. Set aside
  • 3Cream together Brown sugar and shortening. Add the 2 eggs.
  • 4Add dry ingredients including oatmeal, alternating with the 1/2 cup of reserved raisin water.
  • 5Strain off the remaining juice from the raisins. Add raisins.
  • 6Bake on greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes @ 375o.
