My mother used to make these cookies when I was young. I remember the sweet smell of the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. She would bake them and then put them in my favorite Teddy Bear cookie jar. THE BEST!!!

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    raisins
  • 2/3 c
    water
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    oatmeal, uncooked
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt

How to Make Gae Delights

Step-by-Step

  1. Boil together raisins and water until raisins are tender. Remove from heat. Save 1/2 c water for later.
  2. Sift together flour baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves nutmeg and salt. Set aside
  3. Cream together Brown sugar and shortening. Add the 2 eggs.
  4. Add dry ingredients including oatmeal, alternating with the 1/2 cup of reserved raisin water.
  5. Strain off the remaining juice from the raisins. Add raisins.
  6. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes @ 375o.
