I made these years ago, and loved the flavor. I intend to use this batter in my waffle cone iron, to shape cones and bowls to fill with mousse, ice cream or other desserts.

  • 1/2 c
    unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1/4 c
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 c
    salad oil (or melted butter?)
  • 1/4 c
    egg whites (~2)
  • 1 tsp
  • 11-1/2 tsp

How to Make Fortune Cookies


  1. Combine flour, cornstarch, sugar and salt.
  2. Stir in Salad oil (or melted butter).
  3. Add lightly beaten egg whites, vanilla and water and stir until smooth.
  4. Have fortunes ready, and bake one cookie at a time, so cookie does not harden before shaping.
  5. Pour scant 1/3 cup batter in center of baking sheet that is lightly greased with shortening.
  6. Use a spatula to spread bater ito an 8-inch circle, then tilt pan in circular motion to make an even 9 inch circle.
  7. Bake in 300 degree oven, 13 to 16 minutes, until a light golden brown.
  8. Use wide spatula to immediately loosen from pan. Insert fortune. Pick up opposite sides (leaving middle on pan) press sides together and hold in place for about 5 seconds. FInish shaping by bending cookie over flat edge.
