Ingredients

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    dark molasses
  • 3 Tbsp
    dark molasses
  • 3/4 c
    warm water
  • 1
    egg
  • 3 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 2 tsp
    ginger
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    cloves

How to Make Favorite Molasses Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Add baking soda to water.
  2. Cream sugar and shortening, add molasses, then water, egg and remaining ingredients.
  3. Add enough flour to make a nice thick dough.
  4. Chill several hours or overnight.
  5. Roll out and cut into 3" rounds.
  6. Bake at 400 for 8 minutes or until done and then sprinkle with sugar.
