This is a great cookie for the holiday's because of the color the cherries give the cookies.The cherries give the cookies a nice blend of sweetness without being too sweet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How To Make fancy cherry-pecan cookies

  • Step 1
    Beat brown sugar, shortening, egg, and vanilla in a large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed until fluffy. Stir in pecans and cherries.
  • Step 2
    Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt in medium bowl, add by 1/2 cupsful to shorteding mixture, beating well after each addition.
  • Step 3
    Divide dough in half. Place on sheet of waxed paper, shape into a log. refrigerate until firm.
  • Step 4
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees, cut dough into 1/8" thick slices. Place on a ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes or until golden brown . Cool 1-2 minutes on cookie sheet . Remove to wire rack , cool completely.
