Years ago before my children were born, I found this recipe in a cookbook. It was so easy to follow, and always came out tasting so good. The key is not to overcook, so the cookies are chewy and soft.

Makes 3 dozen


1/2 c
vegetable shortening
1/2 c
granulated sugar
1/4 c
brown sugar, lightly packed
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 c
semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c
broken nuts

How to Make Family Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies


  • 1In a mixing bowl combine the shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla. Beat mixture till thoroughly combined. Sift the dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture blending well.
  • 2Stir in chocolate pieces, and if desired nuts.
  • 3Drop dough by rounded teaspoon 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or till edges are lightly browned.
  • 4Cool cookies on a wire rack.
