family favorite chocolate chip cookies
Years ago before my children were born, I found this recipe in a cookbook. It was so easy to follow, and always came out tasting so good. The key is not to overcook, so the cookies are chewy and soft.

Makes 3 dozen
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 - egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup broken nuts

Step 1In a mixing bowl combine the shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla. Beat mixture till thoroughly combined. Sift the dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture blending well.

Step 2Stir in chocolate pieces, and if desired nuts.

Step 3Drop dough by rounded teaspoon 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or till edges are lightly browned.

Step 4Cool cookies on a wire rack.
