I have no idea where this recipe originated but my twin sister gave me this recipe over 35 years ago and it has remained one of my favorites ever since!!

makes 3 1/2 dozen depending on what size you make them

COOKIES:

3 1/2 c
ap flour or ww works good too
1/8 tsp
cinnamon
1/8 tsp
cardamom
1 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
1 c
butter
2 c
brown sugar
2 large
eggs, beaten
1/2 c
buttermilk or sour milk
1 1/2 tsp
vanilla

FILLING:

2 c
chopped dates
3/4 c
water
3/4 c
sugar
1/2 c
chopped pecans or whatever you like....walnuts are good too

How to Make Date Chopped Cookies

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine all filling ingredients and cook in a small pot till thick, stirring constantly. Set aside to cool.
  • 2Stir together, flour, cinnamon, cardamom, salt and baking soda. Cream together butter and brown sugar....add eggs, milk and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
    Drop dough by teaspoon full on an ungreased cookie sheet, flatten a little , place 1/2 tsp date mixture on top of dough followed by 1/2 tsp more dough Bake 350 for approx 15 mins
