This is another recipe from my husband's family. It's considered top secret by some, but I'm willing to take the risk and share it with y'all! :)

Ingredients
- 3 cups chopped dates
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 1/2 cups uncooked rolled oats - quick cook (not instant) oatmeal
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
How To Make date bars

Step 1Combine chopped dates, sugar and water in a sauce pan and cook about 10 minutes, stirring frequently to keep from sticking. Set aside and let cool.

Step 2Combine in a bowl using your hands to mix the rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, salt and shortening.

Step 3Spread 1/2 of the oatmeal mixture into a 9x13" pan and pat down evenly. Top with the date mixture, spreading it evenly over the crust.

Step 4Spread the rest of the oat mixture on top evenly and bake at 400 degrees until ightly browned around the edges, about 25-30 minutes.

Step 5Let cool and cut into bars.
