czechoslovcian kolache cookies
This recipe was given to me many, many years ago. So long ago that I don't remember which of my friends gave it to me. I was fortunate to have a number of friends who were fantastic bakers.

Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 oz packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk (105* to 115*)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup apricot preserves ***
- One large egg,. well beaten
- GLAZE
- 2/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 to 3 teaspoons milk
How To Make czechoslovcian kolache cookies

Step 1Heat oven to 350°

Step 2Combine flour, butter, surgar and salt in a bowl. Beat at low speed until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3Dissolve yeast in warm milk in another bowl. Stir in 1 egg and vanilla. Add milk mixture to flour mixture. Beat at low speed until well mixed.

Step 4Divide dough in half. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one half at a time, to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut dough onto 3 inch squares. Top each square with 1 teaspoon preserves. Bring up two opposite corners of each square to center. Pinch tightly to seal.

Step 5Place 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets. Brush with 1 beaten egg. Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool completely.

Step 6Combine powdered sugar, almond extract and enough milk for desired glazing consistency. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
