cream cheese sugar cookies

I used to make these during the holidays and some I would cut out into shapes and let the kids ice them. But for the most part, I would make them as drop cookies and still have the kids ice some..They loved these sugar cookies. I found this recipe in a hometown paper years ago and thought it would be different with the cream cheese in it. It is the best I have had!

Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 8 ounces cream cheese, one package
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
How To Make cream cheese sugar cookies

Step 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Step 2Combine flour, baking powder, salt & nutmeg; set aside

Step 3Cream butter and shortening; add cream cheese & sugar, beating til fluffy.

Step 4Add egg & vanilla; beat well.

Step 5Gradually beat in flour mix.

Step 6Divide dough in half. Cover & chill 1-2 hours.

Step 7On a lightly floured surface, roll dough 1/8 in. thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets,bake for 7-9 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Frost and decorate as desired.

Step 8*Or scoop in tsp or tblsp (depending on how big you want them)flatten a bit and bake.
