Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter flavor shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 - egg, separated
  • 1 - 1 ounce square unsweetened chocolate, melted, cooled
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 30 - chocolate kisses

How To Make chocolate kiss thumbprint

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Grease baking sheet with butter flavored shortening.
  • Step 3
    Set aside.
  • Step 4
    Combine butter flavored shortening, sugar, milk, vanilla and egg yolk.
  • Step 5
    Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended.
  • Step 6
    Add melted chocolate and mix well.
  • Step 7
    Combine flour and salt.
  • Step 8
    Add to chocolate mixture and mix well until well blended.
  • Step 9
    Form dough into 1 inch balls.
  • Step 10
    Beat egg white slightly with fork and coat balls with egg white.
  • Step 11
    Roll in chopped nuts.
  • Step 12
    Place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.
  • Step 13
    Press thumb gently in center of each cookie.
  • Step 14
    Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes.
  • Step 15
    Remove from oven.
  • Step 16
    Place chocolate kiss in each thumbprint and return to oven for 1 more minute.
  • Step 17
    Remove to cooling rack. (Makes 2 1/2 dozen 2 inch cookies.)
