Kids LOVE these as well as adults. They are like little iced cakes. If left out on a plate they are gone it no time =) Keep in cool place if too warm the filling melts. Can be kept in the fridg for storing over night thats about as long as you will have them if not gone before you put them there =) TIP: For fun and color you can seperate filling into a few different bowls and add a different color of food coloringand or flavors to each bowl. They look nice and the kids love to pick out differnt ones. I like orange, strawberry and mint =)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • SIFT TOGETHER
  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 11/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ADD
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FILLING
  • 2/3 cup margarine or butter
  • 11/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup marshmallow cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make chocolate devil dogs

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 425. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  • Step 2
    Mix shortening, cocoa and sugar, then add mixture of flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Step 3
    Add milk and vanilla; combine. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes; cool completely.
  • Step 4
    Mix filling ingredients and spread between two of the cooled cakes.
