I love salted caramel and dark chocolate! I experimented with variations on chocolate chip cookie recipes until I got the desired end result. A big hit with family and friends!

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 TBSP cocoa powder
- 1 teas salt
- 1/2 teas baking soda
- 1 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 egg plus 1 egg yolk
- 2 teas vanilla extract
- 2 cups dark chocolate morsels
- 2 oz chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 72 pieces caramel (i cut kraft caramels into 12 pieces)

Step 1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt together. Set aside.

Step 2Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar until smooth. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and beat until mixed well. With spatula, fold in flour mixture. Add chocolate morsels and nuts if using.

Step 3Form dough into scant 1/4 cup balls and imbed 4 pieces of caramel into each ball. Place on greased cookie sheets well spaced. Bake 17 to 20 minutes turning pan once for even baking.
