One of my favorite cookies. My neighbor use to make them at Christmas when I was a child, then my mom starting making them, now I make them . I remember one year I made a double batch for Christmas, one I shared and one was hidden for just me!

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons half and half
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped black walnuts
- 2 1/2 cups finely chopped corn flakes
- - marascino cherries quartered

Step 11. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

Step 22. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and granulated sugar.

Step 33. Blend in the eggs one at a time until well combined.

Step 44. Add the milk and vanilla.

Step 55. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix well.

Step 66. Mix in the nuts, carefully. Chill for about a hour so they are easier to roll in balls.

Step 77. Shape dough into small balls using a level tablespoon for each cookie.

Step 88. Roll each ball into the crushed cornflakes.

Step 99. Place on a greased baking sheet or parchment lined baking sheetand top with a quarter of the maraschino cherry.

Step 1010. Bake at 350 for 10 - 12 minutes
