Got the idea from my Land O'Lakes baking book. Followed the original recipe quite closely.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/3 c
    butter, softened
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 c
    dried cherries, coursely chopped
  • 1/2 c
    white baking chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped pecans
  • DRIZZLE

  • 1/4 c
    white baking chips
  • 1/2 tsp
    shortening

How to Make Cherry Vanilla Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 350. Grease 8" square pan.
  2. Combine sugar, butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl. Add flour and baking powder. Beat until well mixed.
  3. Stir in cherries, chips and pecans.
  4. Spread evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. Make drizzle by melting chips and shortening in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until mostly melted; then stir until smooth.
  6. Drizzle over bars. Cool completely and cut into bars.
