cherry vanilla bars

You could use whatever dried fruit you prefer: Blueberries, cranberries, a mix... Got the idea from my Land O'Lakes baking book. Followed the original recipe quite closely.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries, coursely chopped
  • 1/2 cup white baking chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • DRIZZLE
  • 1/4 cup white baking chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon shortening

How To Make cherry vanilla bars

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350. Grease 8" square pan.
  • Step 2
    Combine sugar, butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl. Add flour and baking powder. Beat until well mixed.
  • Step 3
    Stir in cherries, chips and pecans.
  • Step 4
    Spread evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
  • Step 5
    Make drizzle by melting chips and shortening in microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until mostly melted; then stir until smooth.
  • Step 6
    Drizzle over bars. Cool completely and cut into bars.
