Ingredients

  • BASE
  • 1 cup - unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups - granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups - all-purpose flour
  • 1 (21-oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup - slivered almonds
  • GLAZE
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk, as needed for consistency

How To Make cherry pie bars

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 15x10x1-inch jelly roll baking pan; set aside.
  • Step 2
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar and salt until fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract and almond extract. Gradually add flour and beat until well incorporated.
  • Step 3
Spread 3 cups of the dough into the prepared baking pan and press it in place so it reaches the pan's edges. Spread the pie filling on top. Drop spoonsfuls of the remaining dough over the pie filling, then sprinkle the slivered almonds on top.
  • Step 4
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the dough is golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Step 5
Once cooled, mix together the confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract and 2 tablespoons of milk in a small bowl. Add more milk if needed for proper consistency. Drizzle the glaze in a random pattern across the top.
