This is a very old recipe.I got it years ago from my neighbor who was then in her 90's. She said she had made it for her children and they are now in their 90's.
I love these cookies and always double the recipe.
Why they are called Cherry Oatmeal is a good question since there are no cherries in them.
I love to dunk them in milk.

How to Make Cherry Oatmeal Cookies

  1. Beat 1st 4 ingredients & add next 5.
    Stir in oatmeal.
  2. Chill 2 hrs or overnight.Covered
The dough is easier to handle.
I don't always chill, just keep your hands a little damp, so it doesn't stick to your hands..
  3. Form into balls and roll in sugar.
Place on a greased cookie sheet & press down with a glass.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven 350 degrees...10-12 minutes.
THEY SHOULD BE A LITTLE GOOEY IN THE MIDDLE. will set up as they cool...If using a Teflon cookie sheet turn down heat to 325 degrees.
