My Grandma's personal favorite to have with tea every Christmas. A recipe passed down through the years and not changed one bit.

  • 1 c
    unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 c
  • 1
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 2/3 c
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • pinch
  • 1 c
    candied red cherries, chopped coarsely

How to Make Cheery Cherry Christmas Cookies


  1. Beat butter & sugar for about 3 minutes with an electric mixer, or until fluffy.
    Add egg and vanilla and beat 1 minute more.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
    Add gradually to the butter mixture, making sure not to beat too much and stir in cherries by hand.
  3. Divide the dough into thirds; roll each into a log.
    Cover in waxed paper or parchment paper, then plastic wrap.
    Chill overnight or freeze until ready to use, for up to a month (be sure to thaw out if frozen).
  4. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees. Slice into ¼” slices and bake 375 10 minutes, until barely brown.
    Store wrapped in refrigerator or freeze until ready to thaw and slice.
