My daughter and I created this recipe while we were baking cookies to send to the Army Hospital in Afghanistan for Thanksgiving. We couldn't believe how deliciously they turned out!

  • 1 c
    butter or margarine
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
  • 2
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3 c
    old-fashioned oatmeal
  • 6-oz pkg
    caramel chips
  • 1 c
    chopped dried apples
  • 1/4 c
    raw sugar

How to Make Caramel Apple Oatmeal Squares


  1. Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, cream together butter or margarine and sugars.
  2. Add baking soda, salt, eggs, vanilla; blend well.
  3. Stir in flour and oatmeal until all dry ingredients are moistened. Add chips and apples.
  4. Line 9 x 13"baking pan with foil, spray with cooking spray. Press dough into pan, sprinkle top with raw or coarse sparkling sugar. Bake 25-30 minutes, until lightly browned; center will be slightly sunken and soft to touch. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then use foil to transfer to cooling rack. Cut into bars when completely cooled.
