I just received this recipe in an email newsletter. This recipe is for a chocolate flavored cookie bar, but it reminds me of a recipe using a cake mix and a similar method that was lemon flavored. So I have not tried this yet, but I expect it to live up to it's title. And I'm hoping to re-create the gooey, tangy lemon bars I used to make from a cake mix with a crumbly topping for after school snacks.

Add to Grocery List

1 box
white or yellow cake mix
1/3 c
vegetable oil, neutral flavored
1 c
chocolate chips
1 can(s)
sweetened condensed milk
1/4 c
butter or margarine

How to Make Can't Leave Them Alone Bars

  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine cake mix, eggs and vegetable oil. Mixture will be crumbly. Press two thirds of this mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Reserve the last of the mixture for later.
  • 2In a microwave or small saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and 1/4 cup butter or margarine. Melt, stirring often, being careful not to burn or scorch.
  • 3Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the crust. Crumble the remaining cake mix crust mixture evenly over the top of the melted chocolate mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 22 to 25 minutes.
